A downloadable tool

I was in the middle of making my first game and realized that making sound from the synth sounded great was a bit of a pain to code by hand, so I made this little interface to make some fun noises and make note of the settings to code in.

This isn't meant to make music, and I don't think I'll be adding a sequencer.  Some day I may add filters and effects but that will require a whole new screen.  If you want to make music on your Playdate, please have a look at Modular Play by orllewin.

One quirk for now is that the VCO and Freq LFO are mutually exclusive for the time being.  Activating the Freq LFO by increasing its depth above 0 will deactivate the VCO envelope.  Setting it back to 0 will reactivate the VCO.

  • Controls:
    • D-Pad to move cursor
    • Hold B and crank to adjust selected setting (or press to change waveforms)
    • Double-tap B to set the cursor to stay in held state
    • Press A to play the awesome sound you created!
    • You can use B, A, and crank at the same time to adjust settings in realtime.  This works best with the note and rate dials.
  • To Do:
    • Implement save and load functions
    • Add feature to export settings to code
    • Maybe-just-maybe add different screens to route the synth patches around
    • Fix bug where note stays held if you turn the crank while envelope is in release (in this case, you can press A to stop the note).
  • 12/28/2023 - Version 0.87
    • Added hold functionality for A and B buttons.
